Antarctic Expedition during the summer of 2007/08 Part 2 - Inaugural A319 flight to Wilkins
Wilkins Aerodrome is an established ice runway, located 70kms from Casey Station. The site was selected because it is over 700 metres above sea level and remains at temperature below freezing. After completing ‘proving’ and certification flights during the 2006/07 summer and earlier in the 2007/08 summer - the A319 landed at Wilkins Runway at 11:45pm on the 10th of January 2008. This was the first official intercontinental flight carrying passengers to land on the Australian Antarctic Territory.
